Frequently Asked Questions

  • NEP provides high-impact math intervention for middle and high school students. Our programs focus on foundational skill development, algebra readiness, Regents preparation, and targeted support for students who have fallen behind in mathematics.

  • NEP offers a variety of implementation models depending on a school’s needs, student population, schedule, and goals.

For students who need moderate support, we can provide MTSS Tier 2 services such as push-in classroom support, small-group instruction, or targeted intervention during the school day.

For students with significant unfinished learning, we offer MTSS Tier 3 intervention programs such as our Algebra I Passport model, which combines foundational skill development, algebra readiness, and intensive small-group support designed to help students close critical learning gaps.

We also provide after-school programs, Saturday academies, Regents preparation, vacation-week programming, and customized intervention models developed in partnership with school leaders.

Every school is different, and we work closely with administrators to design programs that align with their academic priorities, schedules, staffing structures, and available funding.

  • Yes. NEP is an approved NYCDOE vendor holding a five-year contract under Math-Related Services Direct to Students (MTAC R1254). We have successfully partnered with schools across New York City through both direct school purchase orders and MTAC task orders.

  • We partner with public schools across New York City, including traditional middle schools, high schools, transfer schools, alternative programs, and schools serving multilingual learners and students in temporary housing.

  • We currently serve students in grades 6-12.

  • Yes. The majority of NEP’s instructional team is bilingual in Spanish, allowing us to better support multilingual learners and communicate effectively with students and families.

In addition to Spanish-language support, we work closely with schools to understand their linguistic needs and, where possible, recruit tutors with proficiency in languages spoken by their students and families. This may include high-demand languages in certain communities, such as Uzbek, Arabic, and others.

  • Our primary focus is mathematics, including foundational numeracy, prealgebra, Algebra I, geometry, and Regents preparation.

  • We believe mathematics is one of the most important leverage points in a student’s educational journey.

Research consistently shows that success in Algebra I is strongly associated with high school graduation, college readiness, and future academic achievement. Unfortunately, many students reach middle school and high school with foundational skill gaps that make success in Algebra I increasingly difficult.

Mathematics also occupies a unique place in how students view themselves as learners. Many students come to believe they are simply “not math people” after years of frustration and struggle. When students begin to experience success in mathematics—often for the first time—the impact extends far beyond a single subject. They develop confidence, persistence, and a greater belief in their ability to tackle challenging academic work.

At NEP, we focus on helping students rebuild foundational skills, develop algebra readiness, and experience meaningful success in mathematics. We believe that when students change the way they see themselves as math learners, new opportunities open across their entire educational experience.

  • Schools typically identify students based on academic performance, assessment data, teacher recommendations, Regents needs, attendance patterns, or other intervention criteria. We are happy to collaborate with schools on student selection.

  • Depending on the program, we may use diagnostic assessments, skill-based pre- and post-tests, attendance tracking, session participation data, Regents benchmarks, and ongoing progress monitoring to evaluate student growth.

  • Yes. We can provide schools with attendance data, participation information, assessment results, and summary reports throughout the program.

  • Absolutely. Every school is different. We work closely with school leaders to design programs that align with their goals, schedules, student populations, and available funding.

  • NEP specializes exclusively in mathematics and focuses on helping students close foundational skill gaps that often stand in the way of long-term success. Rather than simply helping students complete assignments or prepare for an upcoming test, our programs are designed to identify unfinished learning, rebuild core mathematical understanding, and develop the skills necessary for future coursework.

We combine individualized support, small-group instruction, progress monitoring, and relationship-building to help students develop both competence and confidence in mathematics. Our approach is grounded in the belief that many students who struggle in math are capable of far more than their performance suggests when given the right support.

  • Implementation timelines vary depending on scheduling, staffing, and procurement requirements. In many cases, programs can begin within a few weeks of approval.
